Finishing the Climate Factors

Hello dear ones,

This week, I continued my adventure with Bill Mollison’s “Permaculture: A designer’s manual”. I finished chapter five, which was as I mentioned about the climate factors. The last part in this chapter was called “A designer’s checklist”, and it is like a summary of what to consider on this subject when one does the design. My plan for next week is to translate this part in Bulgarian and modify it for the landscape and climate in our region.

Mollison separated the main climate factors in five main groups as following: precipitation, radiation, winds, landscape and latitude. Precipitation as the word may suggest is the group that includes all the water flows that “visit” the site, such as rain, snow, dew and fog. Radiation is about the importance of light and temperature. I made two schemes about these two subjects with the help of Bing Image creator, for when we have the sessions.

The other “helpers” (schemes) for the other factors are still in making. The factor “wind” is discussed even in my own personal life recently, since my friends are making a short movie about the wind breaks in Bulgaria. When the movie is finished, I will not hesitate to share it here. If you asked me a few months ago, I wouldn’t consider this to be such an important factor, but seeing the scenes in which they compare the soil where there are wind breaks and where there aren’t, made me understand the importance of navigating wind energy.

This week, my coordinator offered to help me with my understanding of the patterns. She gave me some examples that opened up my view on the usage of patterns in the making of the design. It was very beneficial for me.

That is all for this week. I wish you all a lovely weekend.

Love,

Marija
