New faces and new tasks in my first weeks as a volunteer

Hello, my name is Alex, I am 25 (as of yesterday!). Since the beginning of October, I have started my volunteering at Green School Village.

My first days were spent in the company of Misha, Filip, and the wonderful white kittens in the office in Sofia. The mood was being kept by music from the Turkish rock band Lalalar. I recently went to a concert of theirs and wanted to share the energy in the office. Here’s a link to their Spotify.

Misha and I discussed the goals and current projects of the organization, the various partners, and the opportunities for me to get involved, be useful, and learn in the process. Misha showed me this method of defining intentions and contributions by drawing them out like a tree. I tried it out and that helped to get more clarity and what my volunteering will look like for the coming weeks and months.

I had chats with Filip about technical stuff and was impressed by the digital resources they have developed for the organization. There definitely is potential to work with them, and it’s refreshing to see a competent person in the world of technology and information in an organization focused on natural topics and projects.

I had the chance to meet Maria – another volunteer at the organisation, and Inka from Forest school “Mossy Beard”. They use an informal approach to educate children on nature-related topics. Lately, I have been increasingly interested in alternative non formal forms of education and am eager to learn more.

Maria and I discussed her work as a volunteer, and she showed me how I could participate in and help out. She has been involved in translating and processing literature and materials on permaculture from English to Bulgarian, which I will be reviewing primarily for spelling, as Bulgarian is not her first language.

With Inka we talked about her activities and projects and with Misha we introduced Inka to the concept of the LAND Network and Bulgarian accreditation with badges.

I spent the rest of the day reviewing video materials and researching video processing options with the help of software and artificial intelligence. I am currently examining the beginning of the Estonian project.

Expect further updates and details in the following weekly posts!

 – wishing you all the best for now,

Alex
