Patterns

Hello dear ones,

This week I continued with the fourth chapter of Bill Mollison’s book “Permaculture: A designer’s manual”. The subject of this chapter is Patterns understanding. At first look the world may seem chaotic and unrelated, but if we observe it longer we may start noticing the patterns on which it is built, especially the natural phenomena.

The subject of the patterns can seem very abstract at times. Firstly, because nature is always changing and because we, as observers, are affecting the observation itself and observation is probably the most important method if we want to understand patterns. This is why Mollison created three steps, or tasks as he called them, in order to have some structure while working with this method.

The first task is more general pattern understanding, the second one is the linking disciplines and the third one is the guides to pattern application.

This week I devoted to the first task. I made a scheme of the general pattern’s of examples in nature. I made it on Photoshop, using the help of AI Bing Image creator. My idea at first was to make a whole picture of the models placed in nature in reality, but after few hours I gave up, because I didn’t get the wanted result. So instead I made it into a scheme, again using pieces of different images. I believe that making this visual schemes can be useful in sessions or workshop, because some people learn better and remember more visually.

Until next week,

Marija
