Permaculture Design Course in Estonia – 2023

Incredible bison PDC – Estonia 2023
Near Rakvere we had an incredible 2 weeks dense Permaculture course. The place where it was held was incredible. It was a bison farm. The bison were raised on a pasture fields, free, eating healthy wild diverse plants, while fertilizing the soil on the fields. Permaculture steps on 3 foundational Ethics: Earth care, people care and Fair share. And whatever we do in our lives we want to ask ourselves: Is this what I do does care for the earth, does it have positive impact on the people and is it helping to have more fair share between everybody of resources, material, spiritual and other things. After the Ethics we have many Principles which gives more specific directions, we can use them to guide us and to make us understand easier how the things in the planet works. Few examples: Use and value diversity; Produce no waste; Catch and store energy; Observe and interact; Multiple functions; Energy cycling, and many more.
The main teacher was Cathrine Dolleris who was amazing and also something important, she was a diploma holder.
Simon Gillesberg from Denmark who is very passionate gardener and worm person.
And last but not the least – we have had a really nice microscope lectures and practice from
Marian Nummert from Estonia.
It was a very good collaboration that made the training quite more diverse, full and fun too. It was amazing to have the chance to learn so much. Not only that, but it was full of lectures about so many topics. Permaculture is growing so much that is impossible to go through everything for two weeks, but it gave us so much knowledge, and it gives new developed perspectives how to implement practical simple solutions for how to grow healthy food, how to work with the nature, how to understand it more, how the climate works, how to use and implement more positive and fair society principles which leads to more balanced fair share.
The legitimate PDC courses are held only by diploma holders.
The course was supported by the Erasmus + European program which supports the increase of the knowledge capacity of the GreenSchoolVillage and more specifically – Permaculture association Bulgaria.
The host where the course was held are friends and are working together with the Permaculture association of Estonia.
In the beginning maybe for some people that don’t have knowledge and experience with Permaculture, the terminology might look unfamiliar, difficult but just after few days you start to get used to it and to see how useful it is to describe things. One of the best things of Permaculture is that it constantly develops, and it is like one small baby that has incredible amount of knowledge but also is not afraid to say and admit that there is so much more to be learned. Permaculture is extremely adaptive and can be used in any country and in any profession. It gives so much knowledge that it will be also really beneficial and important to also implemented and taught even in regular schools. Permaculture feels a very important gap in the regular education, not only from a knowledge perspective, but also from a care, love, positive perspective that unites people, teaches them how to work in a team rather than compete. We need this so much in our modern world. I advise and wish to everybody to go through PDC at least one time in their lives. You make contacts, too. Usually is in a different country which also makes you to think more outside the box in terms of climate conditions, soil types, temperatures, humidity, wind, different plants and so on.
It is important also to mention the very nice food young volunteers had prepared for us.
